How paid lessons work and how you earn
Updated September 19, 2026 · 18 min read
Paid lessons are in testing (BETA): we open them gradually and the steps may still change. This page first tells you in short how they work, then details every step, from the application at the start to the money in your account.
At a glance
Who this is for
Tutor who wants to hold paid one-to-one or group lessons through Hola25
Estimated time
30–60 minutes of setup, in several sessions; checks can take a few days
Outcome
You know every step from the application to the money in your bank: what you fill in, what Hola25 and Stripe check, what the platform keeps, when and how you get paid, and what to do about cancellations, invoices, DAC7 and disputes
The path, in short
- Submit the application from the “Paid lessons” card and confirm the paid-lessons agreement.
- Submit the fiscal details of your registered activity or company and open the Stripe account for payouts.
- Once Stripe is ready, Hola25 runs its own checks; sometimes a colleague takes one last look before we open paid lessons. You have nothing to resubmit.
- Set subjects, net rate and schedule; the offer becomes visible.
- The student books and pays at booking; you hold the lesson in the Hola25 video room.
- The commission applies in tiers: 25% on the first 50 RON, 15% between 50 and 100 RON, 10% above 100 RON, minimum 8 RON. For 100 RON of yours, the student pays 122.22 RON.
- At least 3 days after the lesson the amount is released, approved and sent through Stripe to your bank account. You issue the student's invoice; DAC7 asks for your fiscal details once a year.
Before you start
- You have a tutor account, a complete profile with a photo, a calendar and at least one saved subject.
- You have a registered activity or a company (in Romania, for example a PFA, II or SRL) with its details at hand. As a private individual without a registered form you cannot receive money through the platform.
- You have a bank account in the name of the person or business from your fiscal details, for Stripe.
Steps to follow
Submit the paid-lessons application
In Tutor account, the “Paid lessons” card shows what is left: profile, account activation, calendar, agreement, subject, rate, payout details and the Stripe account. The application is sent from that card once the required steps are done.
The answer can be immediate. Otherwise the card stays on “Application sent” and you follow it under “View application”. “Changes needed” tells you exactly what is missing; a rejected application can be resubmitted after you fix the reason.
The application does not collect your fiscal details and does not unlock payments on its own. Trial lessons are set up separately and can go on whatever the application status.
- Open Tutor account → Overview.
- Complete the steps marked on the “Paid lessons” card.
- Choose “Submit for approval” and follow the status.
Expected result
The application shows as sent or approved, and the card shows the next step.
Confirm the Terms for Teachers Offering 1:1 and Group Lessons
Paid lessons have their own agreement, separate from the trial-lesson one. Find it under Settings → Documents, in the “Paid lessons” section, with its confirmation status and date.
You can confirm before or after the application is approved, but the offer stays hidden until it is confirmed. When a new version is published we ask again; your settings stay saved meanwhile.
- Open Settings → Documents → Paid lessons.
- Read the Terms, select “I agree” and choose “Confirm”.
Expected result
The “Paid lessons” section under Documents shows the agreement as confirmed, with its date.
Submit your fiscal details
Under Settings → Fiscal details and payouts you say who receives the money: the person or business, legal form, address and tax identifier. For Romania, enter the CUI and choose “Search the company”; Hola25 brings the details in from ANAF and you complete what is missing. If they are wrong, choose “These details are wrong”.
After submission the details go into review. The card shows whether they are verified, need a correction or are being checked manually. If you are VAT-registered, say so in the form; paid lessons stay available.
Submitting fiscal details does not activate paid lessons by itself: you still need the Stripe account and an approved subject.
- Open Settings → Fiscal details and payouts.
- Fill in the legal form, tax identifier and address.
- Submit and follow the review status on the card.
The fiscal details belong to whoever receives the money
The name in your fiscal details must match the Stripe account and the bank account. If they differ, payouts stay blocked until you fix it.
Expected result
The card shows “Fiscal details verified” or tells you exactly what to correct.
Open your payout account in Stripe
Hola25 sends money through Stripe, its payment partner. Once your fiscal details are verified, “Continue to Stripe” opens the Stripe page through a temporary link. There you confirm your identity and the bank account that receives the money; Hola25 never sees or stores your card or bank details.
When you return, we check again that the person or business in Stripe matches your fiscal details. If Stripe still needs documents, the card shows “Stripe needs information” and sends you back. Returning from Stripe alone does not mean you are done.
You change the bank account later in Stripe Express, not in Hola25. These checks do not certify the tutor and do not replace your tax obligations.
- Choose “Continue to Stripe” from the payouts card.
- Confirm your identity and bank account on the Stripe page.
- Return to Hola25 and check the status on the card.
Expected result
The payouts card shows the Stripe account as ready, with nothing left that Stripe requires.
Hola25 checks your account before paid lessons start
Once Stripe is ready, Hola25 checks on its own that your fiscal details, Stripe account and payout currency match. Sometimes a colleague takes one last look before we open paid lessons; other times they start right away, with no extra look.
The “Paid lessons” card shows whether you are still waiting on anything. Do not resubmit your details or reopen Stripe — there is nothing for you to do. We do not give a fixed time for how long this takes.
If you later change your fiscal details or open a new Stripe account, the check restarts; changing only your bank account does not restart it.
Expected result
The “Paid lessons” card turns “Active”, with no further action from you.
Choose subjects and rates; understand the commission
Under Subjects you submit each subject for approval. Under Rates you set the amount you want to receive for a lesson, before your own taxes and contributions. The calculator adds the Hola25 commission separately and shows the price the student pays before you save.
The standard grid applies in tiers to the standard price before commission VAT: 25% on the first 50 RON, 15% on the part between 50 and 100 RON and 10% on the part above 100 RON, with a minimum of 8 RON. Example: for 100 RON received by you, the standard price is 122.22 RON. VAT on the Hola25 commission is added separately where it applies.
A discount granted to the student on a one-to-one lesson comes out of the Hola25 commission and does not reduce your amount. A new rate applies only to new bookings. If you have a commercial rule that differs from the standard grid, the Rates preview shows the real amount; check it every time.
- Open Subjects and submit the subject for approval.
- Open Rates, enter the net amount you want and check the calculated price.
- Save, and repeat for group lessons if you offer them.
Expected result
The subject is approved and Rates shows your amount and the student's price for each duration.
Set availability and booking rules
Under Availability you set the weekly schedule, breaks and days off. There you also choose whether bookings confirm instantly or need your approval.
If something is missing (profile photo, agreement, approved subject, Stripe), the offer stays hidden even when enabled; the card under Overview shows the reason and what to do. You can pause bookings at any time without losing your settings.
- Open Availability and set your slots.
- Choose instant or manual confirmation.
Expected result
Your public page shows free slots and the “Paid lessons” card is on “Active”.
Receive your first booking
The student or parent picks a free slot and pays on the Stripe page at booking. The money stays with Hola25, which collects it on your behalf, until after the lesson. You see the booking under Lessons → Upcoming and get a notification.
With manual confirmation you must answer by the deadline shown on the booking. If it passes with no answer, the booking cancels automatically and the student gets a full refund; you are not penalised, but the student loses the slot.
For group lessons every seat is paid separately. Pick a start at least 25 hours after you publish: 24 hours before the start, Hola25 checks the minimum number of participants. If it is not reached, the lesson is cancelled automatically and everyone gets a full refund. You and the enrolled students get a notification saying that the minimum was not reached.
- Open Lessons → Upcoming.
- Confirm or decline the request by the deadline, if you chose manual confirmation.
Expected result
The booking shows as scheduled, with the date, time and the amount you will receive.
Manage your group, conversations and payments
From Teacher account → Group lessons, open the lesson. The page shows its status, schedule, occupied places and enrolled students. Edit, cancel and join actions appear only when the lesson state and time allow them.
Conversations opens the student chooser; Chat opens a private conversation with the selected student, including after the group lesson. It does not send a group message to everyone.
Earnings and payments shows only the open lesson, for the selected payment month. The payment month may differ from the lesson month. When more pages exist, the summary is partial: load the next payments to include them. A missing payment in loaded records does not prove a student has not paid.
Details opens the amount paid, fee, refunds, adjusted net and available billing details for that transaction. Currencies stay separate. An amount without an active hold does not confirm a bank payout. If loading fails, select Retry.
- Open the group lesson and review its participants.
- Choose the payment month and open Details next to the desired payment.
Expected result
You see the participants, private conversations and payment evidence for this lesson without mixing other lessons or currencies.
Hold the lesson
Enter the video room from Lessons at the scheduled time. Attendance is recorded from the room, so join from your own account and stay until the end. After the lesson ends it is marked completed automatically after 3 days if nobody opens a dispute.
If you cannot make it, cancel early from Lessons; do not let the lesson pass. A lesson the tutor does not show up for goes into review and may be refunded to the student.
- Open the lesson under Lessons → Upcoming and enter the room.
- Hold the lesson and close the room at the end.
Expected result
The lesson moves to Lessons → Past and its amount shows under Earnings as “Pending (until after the lesson)”.
Cancellations and refunds: what happens to the money
If you cancel a one-to-one lesson or a whole group lesson, Hola25 starts a full refund for the students. You receive nothing for the cancelled lesson, but you pay no penalty either. Repeated cancellations lower students' trust and can lead to an account review.
If the student cancels, the cancellation rule shown at booking decides: well in advance they get 100% back, closer to the lesson 50%, and very close to the lesson nothing. The non-refunded part stays in your amount. The student sees the percentage and exact amount before confirming.
Rescheduling a one-to-one lesson happens from Lessons, with both sides agreeing, and moves no money. Group lessons are not rescheduled: cancel and create another one.
Expected result
Under Earnings, a cancelled lesson shows as refunded, partially refunded or with the retained amount, with the rule that applied.
From the lesson to the money in your account
Every amount goes through stages you can see under Reports → Earnings: “Pending (until after the lesson)” while the lesson has not happened, then a review window of at least 3 days after the lesson, during which the student can open a dispute, then “Released”, meaning the amount can be sent.
Once released, Hola25 creates the transfer request automatically. For paid lessons the transfer can require the team's approval; during this testing period approval is manual. After approval the amount leaves through Stripe to your bank account; how long it takes to appear depends on your bank.
A transfer can stay pending even after your setup is complete: an open dispute, a bank chargeback, missing DAC7 data or a team review stops it until it is cleared. Earnings shows pending, released, sent, refunded and disputed amounts separately. An estimate does not mean the money has been sent.
- Open Reports → Earnings.
- Check each amount's stage and the reason shown if an amount is not moving.
We do not promise a fixed date
The minimum is the 3 days after the lesson. Approval and your bank add time. If a released amount sits for several days without a transfer, write to support.
Expected result
For every lesson you see your amount, its stage and the date it was sent.
Invoices and fiscal documents
You sell the lesson, and Hola25 collects the price on your behalf as a disclosed agent. That is why the buyer's fiscal document, where the law requires one, is issued by you, in the form your law requires (invoice, e-Factura, receipt). Hola25 does not issue or report that document in your place.
The buyer gets from Hola25 only a payment confirmation, clearly marked as non-fiscal, and we forward their invoice requests to you. The payer's billing details are under Reports → Earnings, on the lesson, with “Copy details” and CSV export; use them only to invoice that lesson.
Hola25 issues its own commission document to you separately. The student's price, commission, commission VAT, discounts, refunds and your amount are shown separately under Earnings. On a refund or a lost chargeback you also correct your own document.
- Open the lesson under Reports → Earnings and copy the payer's details.
- Issue the document your law requires, in your invoicing tool.
The payment confirmation is not an invoice
The Stripe or Hola25 confirmation proves payment but does not replace an invoice, receipt or fiscal receipt.
Expected result
Every paid lesson has your document to the buyer, and the Hola25 commission document is available separately.
DAC7: the data reported yearly to ANAF
EU DAC7 rules require Hola25 to report yearly to ANAF the identification details of tutors who receive money through the platform. After your first paid lesson we email you for whatever is missing: legal name, address, country of tax residence and tax identifier (CNP, CUI or a foreign TIN). You fill them in the same form under Settings → Fiscal details and payouts.
If the data stays missing, you get two reminders, at 21 and 42 days. At 60 days from the request we are required to suspend payouts; lessons continue and the amounts stay recorded. Once you complete the data, the weekly check lifts the suspension and the transfer resumes if nothing else blocks it.
- When the request arrives, open Settings → Fiscal details and payouts.
- Fill in the fields marked as missing and submit.
Expected result
The DAC7 warning disappears from Tutor account and payouts are not suspended.
Disputes and bank chargebacks
The student can open a dispute in Hola25 if the lesson did not go as agreed. A dispute puts the lesson amount on hold and sends it to the team. The team checks room attendance and messages, may ask you for an explanation, and decides: the amount stays yours, or is refunded in full or in part.
A bank chargeback is different: the student asks their bank for the money back, through Stripe. The amount shows under Earnings as “Bank chargeback open” and cannot be sent until it closes. Hola25 answers the bank with the evidence from the platform. If the bank sides with the student, the amount shows as “Bank chargeback lost” and is not transferred to you; if it had already been sent, it is withheld from your next transfers.
What helps: join the room from your own account, on time; keep communication with the student in Hola25; cancel early when you cannot hold the lesson. Refunds and lost chargebacks also require correcting your fiscal document.
Do not settle a dispute outside the platform
Do not ask the student for money or send them money directly. Every refund goes through Hola25 so it stays tied to the lesson and its documents.
Expected result
You know why an amount is marked as disputed or charged back and which evidence counts.
If something does not work
The card says paid lessons are unavailable although I finished the steps.
Open the card: the reason is shown directly (missing photo, unconfirmed agreement, Stripe needs information, names do not match), or it shows that Hola25 is still checking your account — then there is nothing to fix, just wait. The status updates on its own.
The card says the name in Stripe does not match my fiscal details.
The card shows the name from your Hola25 fiscal details next to the name on your Stripe account (and the bank account holder, when that is what differs), plus the steps to take in Stripe. If the correct name is the Hola25 one, press "Resolve in Stripe" and fix it there. If the correct name is the Stripe one, press "Correct Hola25 details": you submit a new version of your fiscal details, we check it and rerun the match. After any change, press "Check again".
I returned from Stripe but Hola25 still says I am not done.
Stripe may still need a document or a confirmation. Choose “Continue to Stripe” again and check its list of requirements. An expired link is regenerated from the card.
The lesson is over but the amount is still “Pending”.
After the lesson there are at least 3 days of review, then the transfer approval. If several days have passed since “Released” with no transfer, check the reason under Earnings and write to support.
Payouts are suspended because of DAC7.
Fill in the missing fields under Settings → Fiscal details and payouts. The weekly check lifts the suspension; the amounts are not lost.
The student asks me for an invoice.
You issue the document, from your invoicing tool, with the payer's details from Reports → Earnings. The payment confirmation Hola25 sends is not an invoice.
Frequently asked questions
What does the BETA label on the “Paid lessons” card mean?
That the product is in testing: we open it gradually to a group of tutors, and the steps and rules may still change before the full launch. The label does not change the application, agreement, checks or the money you receive.
Can I receive money as a private individual, without a PFA or company?
No. Receiving money through the platform requires a registered activity or a company (in Romania, for example a PFA, II or SRL). Trial lessons need no fiscal details or Stripe, because they are not paid to the tutor.
The student cancelled a day before. Do I get anything?
It depends on the rule shown at booking: very close to the lesson the student gets no refund, earlier 50%, well in advance 100%. The non-refunded part stays in your amount and goes through the same stages as a held lesson.
Who issues the student's invoice?
You, where your law requires it. Hola25 collects on your behalf and sends the student only a non-fiscal payment confirmation; the payer's details are under Reports → Earnings. Hola25 issues its commission document to you separately.
The amount has been “Released” for days but has not reached my bank.
Check under Earnings whether a reason is shown (dispute, bank chargeback, DAC7, review). If none is shown and several days have passed, write to support naming the lesson.
